God is Singing Over You With Joy

Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

“For the LORD your God is living among you.
He is a mighty savior.
He will take delight in you with gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears.
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

When we think of singing in the context of God , what comes to mind? A worship service? Praise team? Listening to the Christian radio station in the car or singing along? As the prophet Zephaniah wrote, because God takes great delight in us (his people), he is actually rejoicing over us with singing. Before we ever sang one word to God, he is singing over us. What is God singing over you? His love?

Our culture swoons over love songs because they make us feel special, they touch a deep part within our heart and soul because we are wired to love and be loved because we are made in the image of God who is love, But God’s love song over us is so much greater, more meaningful than any human song because God knows everything about us and still loves us in spite of it. We don’t have to hide anything from him because he already knows it, including our every thought. Take time today to reflect on what God is joyfully singing over you. What if our worship is a response to God’s love and singing over us?

“Before I spoke a word
You were singing over me
You have been so, so good to me
Before I took a breath
You breathed Your life in me
You have been so, so kind to me
Oh, the overwhelming, never-endin’
Reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down
Fights ’til I’m found
Leaves the ninety-nine
