Ministries of Holton UMC
We have a very active volunteer led Youth Ministry. Our Youth Group meets every Sunday from 4-6 pm (check our calendar first), which focuses on helping our youth grow closer to Jesus and live for him through a youth led Bible devotion, a Biblical lesson on relevant topics to youth, along with fun activities, and service opportunities in the community and beyond. Every other year we go on a mission trip to Appalachia Service Project to help makes homes warm, safer, and drier, and to share the love of Jesus. We also have a youth Sunday school which meets during our first service.
We have Sunday school all year round for kids ages 4 – 12th grade. Our Sunday school volunteers have a passion for Jesus and desire to share His truth in the Bible with the next generation so we can know God and live daily for Him.
Hand2Hand is a West Michigan ministry that partners churches with schools to provide food for hungry kids on the weekends. Holton UMC partners with the Holton Community Center and other Holton area churches to serve our Holton school kids who request these weekly bags of food. This past year we averaged 133 kids.
We partner with the Holton Community Center (website), which provides food for families in our area. They also have a thrift store which helps provide for much of their financial support. HCC is more than just a food bank though, it provides a safe space for people to talk and be prayed over.
School supplies are getting more and more costly for families. HUMC receives grants from the Gerber Foundation, Walmart, along with gifts from members of our church to purchase school supplies for kids in our community. On this annual event (usually 1-3 weeks before school begins) we invite anyone in the community to come receive free supplies, and connect with community support services like Muskegon Area District Library (MADL), Wespath Mental Health Services, medical, dental, hearing, vision, and many more.
We have a beautiful and well maintained outdoor prayer garden and labyrinth (walking path) behind our facility which is open year round for anyone to come and pray (member or not) and draw closer to God in the beauty of God’s creation.
God has blessed us with a wonderful sports complex which we are able to offer to the community. We have a playground, baseball field, and ice rink/basketball court. During the summers we are proud to host Little League practices and games on our field at no cost And through our concession stand we are also able to offer free hot dog, drink, and chips to all the players as an expression of God’s love and hospitality. During the winter we flood our rink and offer ice skating, including free skate rentals on select days.
